Performance, temperament, soundness, health and longevity have always been of higher priority than show wins at Hollow Hills - although show wins are a fine corroboration of my adherence to the breed standard. The primary objective for the overall breeding program is to combine bloodlines to produce pups that will improve each generation for the betterment of the breed. The kennel is small and litters are carefully planned. All adults live with the family, or if they're pulling a shift to keep the barn clear of rats they still get house-time, and puppies get a great deal of exposure to "real life," including cats, horses, other breeds of dogs (including my German Shepherds), normal household bedlam and the adventures of life on the farm. Rat terriers are an intelligent, sensitive, people-oriented breed that do not reach full potential without proper socialization and early mental stimulation. Rest assured that Hollow Hills puppies are given the kind of start in life that provides a sound foundation for reaching their full potential as competitors or companions. Although I'm relatively new to rat terriers, I have three decades of experience breeding German Shepherds (http://www.hollowhillsgsd.com). The insights I've gained in genetics, character, working ability, and the necessity of correct structure for performance of a dog's purpose are directly applicable to this amazing breed. I have a spacious kennel compound at my home on eight acres in Northeastern Pennsylvania and all of the dogs are allowed house time and are taken for runs in the surrounding woods and countryside. My husband is a practicing small animal veterinarian, so the dogs are assured a high quality of life from the beginning. When buying a puppy from Hollow Hills, it will have received whatever vaccinations and wormings appropriate for its age. When acquiring a young pup, you will have additional boosters and other medical considerations that will be your responsibility in maintaining the ongoing health of the puppy. Generally the pups are spoken for well before weaning, so please do contact me early so that I’ll be able to work with you to match your needs to the most suitable litter and specific pup. Because of my commitment to breeding better dogs, I stand behind them. There is no way to breed a perfect dog, but I do try! And now for my dogs......
